On Monday at 3:00 AM SPD patrol officers were at the Saint Maria Goretti Church located at 6261 N. Granite Reef Road as they had been informed that someone had gained entry at least one other time on a Sunday night or early Monday morning by unknown means. Earlier in March this same activity took place and it was believed that the person may have been taking cash from the church office.
Officers watched as the suspect gained entry. They then contacted him inside and took him into custody without incident. The suspect revealed that he had a key as he has volunteered for the church for a number of years. He made statements that implicated him and that he was going in to take money from the office.
The suspect was booked on a Burglary charge.
