Event date: Thursday, June 28, 2012, from 7:30 AM to 7:30 AM
Date:

Time:
8:05 PM
Report #:
1214570
Location:
8550 E. McDowell Rd.
Victim Info:
Neighbors
Suspect Data:
S1) David Helker 8/23/87
Details:
A neighbor in the apartment community called 911 reporting having heard multiple gunshots coming from a nearby apartment unit. Responding patrol officers made verbal contact with the occupants of the unit and a 19 yr old female occupant exited and was detained for further investigation. S1) Helker retreated into the back bedroom of the apartment and refused to exit to officers. Although the 19yr old female denied Helker possessing or shooting a gun, prior police contact and statements from neighbors indicated that Helker was armed. A third roommate of the apartment was unaccounted for. Barricade procedures were implemented and several SWAT personnel from SAU and the Gang/ROP Unit responded. Helker continued to refuse to exit the apartment after multiple tactical escalation measures. SWAT ultimately made entry and detained Helker who was arrested on a variety of charges and is being investigated for a possible probation violation and possession of drugs. He was booked into Scottsdale city jail.
