It’s Time to Go Back to School

It’s back to school time in Scottsdale. Beginning Monday August 8, school zones will be active, school busses will be out picking up kids. The Scottsdale Police Department and the Scottsdale Unified School District would like to remind drivers that they need to do their part to keep kids safe as they walk and bike to school. “School zones traffic laws are in place to keep kids safe,” according to Traffic Unit Sergeant Jim Dear. “Scottsdale police traffic officers will be out in full force, making sure motorists obey the rules in school zones and around busses.”

Whether you are taking your kids to school or just driving through a school zone, you can do your part to keep kids safe. All parking and traffic laws are enforced around schools but these are the most common that officers look for:

  • Passing a vehicle in a school zone (where posted)
  • Speeding in a school zone (16-35 mph)
  • Excessive Speed (36+ mph)

Remember to pay attention around school zones; our officers will.
