At approx 1:30 AM Saturday morning Scottsdale Fire Department crews responded to a working first alarm house fire. Crews battled and extinguished a very hot interior fire that caused extensive damage to the residence. Multiple Fire Department Units were needed to extinguish the flames.
The home was occupied by 4 individuals at the time of incident, 3 renters and 1 guest. The homeowner was not on site.
The suspect, a 41 year old female, appeared to have set the fire in a room of the home which then spread. All other occupants smelled smoke and observed the flames and evacuated the premises. While evacuating they dragged the unconscious suspect from the home also. The suspect regained consciousness and re-entered the home needing to then be rescued by arriving Fire Department members.
At this time the only injuries were to the suspect who was taken to Maricopa County Medical Center for smoke inhalation. She will be transferred to County Psych upon her release as this was an apparent suicide attempt.
