At 3:00 PM the suspect, Robert White (DOB 02/16/79), rode a bicycle up to the 19 year old male victim who was walking near Granite Reef and Oak. After stopping his bike the suspect pulled back his shirt, exposing a chrome handgun. He then asked the victim what size shoes he was wearing. The victim responded and when the suspect heard the response he rode off without the shoes. The victim was not injured during the encounter.
The suspect continued to ride southbound on Granite Reef. He was spotted by SPD at Granite Reef and McDowell and was stopped and taken into custody without incident just west of the intersection. The handgun was still in his waistband at the time of the arrest.
Hohokam Elementary and The Granite Reef Senior Center were placed on lockdown during the event as a precaution.
The suspect was booked on Armed Robbery and Drug charges.
