Yesterday at noon SPD was called to the Villas Verona Apartments at 10055 N. 142 Street in reference to a female subject who was threatening to kill herself. The subject’s boyfriend had called us and let us know that the subject had a handgun in her possession.
Officers arrived and a negotiator had established contact and when the contact was lost multiple gunshots were heard going off inside of the unit at about 1:30 PM. Shortly afterward the subject walked out on her own through the patio door and was taken into custody without any further incident. She was transported without injury to SHC-Shea for a mental health evaluation.
Inside, the handgun was recovered and all rounds fired were accounted for including one which was shot into the wall in the direction of the officers outside (round lodged in wall). No officers were injured. Upon completion of the investigation Aggravated Assault charges will be filed. |
