Scottsdale Fire Recognizes Outstanding

Employees, Volunteers and Community Partners at annual awards ceremony

Seven Scottsdale Fire Department employees, a community association, and two volunteers were recognized for outstanding achievements yesterday at the Scottsdale Fire Department 4th Annual Awards ceremony, held at the Granite Reef Senior Center.

This year's event honored the outstanding work of Fire Department employees throughout the organization for acts of heroism, life saving and community service. The event was hosted by Fire Chief Garret Olson. Fire employees and guests heard accolades from Mayor Jim Lane and City Manager David Richert, as well as remarks from Chief Olson.

“The Scottsdale Fire Department has a 97 percent approval rating from our community. That is no accident,” said Fire Chief Garret Olson. “It is due to employees and volunteers going above and beyond, providing exemplary service to ensure Scottsdale is healthy and safe for residents, businesses and guests.”

This is the first time Scottsdale Fire has given the Community Partner Award. “Desert Mountain Master Association is a true partner with the Fire Department,” Olson said. “The Association has taken the initiative to train staff in Hands-Only CPR and Emergency Medical Response. Some personnel have been trained to respond to snake removal calls. Since there can be up to 15 snake calls a day, their actions enable our crews to remain in service for emergencies.”
