Tips from our Female Officers

  1. Become the person that people come to for answers.
  2. Cross train, just like it’s good for your body, it’s good for your career. Cross training gives you a greater understanding of the agency and the profession.
  3. Don’t harshly judge or criticize any person, unit, or decision unless you know everything about it.
  4. Always have a positive attitude, maintain your professionalism, and treat people with respect.
  5. Exercise! This job requires physical and mental preparedness, not only for your safety, but for the safety of those around you. Make time for it. It keeps your mind and body healthy.
  6. Discover what it takes for you to de-escalate from the excitement and stress of work so that you don’t take it home with you. Have hobbies and friends outside of work.
  7. This job has so many opportunities, whether it be in traffic enforcement, detectives, K9, SWAT, or promotion to management positions, etc. Find where your passion lies and make it your career goal. As your passions change, pursue new career goals. Always challenge yourself.
  8. Don’t take everything too seriously. Make sure you’re having fun. If you’re not enjoying the area you’re in, move to another.
