Field Training Administration and Evaluation
The FTO Administration and Evaluation Section coordinates every aspect of an officer’s initial training program, outside of the police academy, to include, a two-week pre-academy, a four-week post-academy, and the 13-week field training program.
Although the Field Training and Evaluation Program is composed of more than forty sworn and civilian FTO’s, the day to day administration of the program is currently run by a Sergeant and two full time administrative Officers. The forty field trainers, (officers and police aides), who conduct the bulk of the on the job training, are assigned to the Patrol Division within the Uniformed Services Bureau. It is in field training that new officers apply what they learned in the sterile police academy environment to real world situations. The field training experience is both intense and educational.
