POLICE CRISIS INTERVENTION SERVICE

The Scottsdale Police Crisis Intervention Service (PCIS) enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of the Scottsdale Police Department by adding professional intervention services to the traditional law enforcement function and supplements its in-service and community education endeavors in social service areas.

The program provides direct crisis intervention services to individuals and families in response to Police Department referrals and community requests. The Police Crisis Intervention Service is staffed by 7 full-time professional Crisis Intervention Specialists.

The Police Crisis Intervention Service has operated from within the Scottsdale Police Department since 1975. PCIS has been profiled as a model program by the National Institute of Justice in their report “Serving Crime Victims and Witnesses.”

In 2008 the Police Crisis Intervention Service began its Canine Crisis Response Program. Fozzie, a male Golden Retriever, was donated to the Scottsdale Police Department by Paws With A Cause, an assistance dog training program.  He is the nation’s first full-time Police Crisis Response Canine. Fozzie responds to calls with a Police Crisis Intervention Specialist and together they form a Canine Crisis Response Team.

PCIS offices are located at the Downtown District Station and at the Scottsdale Family Advocacy Center. Office hours are Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. PCIS personnel provide on-scene crisis intervention services 24 hours a day in response to Police Department referrals and requests.
