CRIME LABORATORY VOLUNTEER
Qualifications :

  • Detailed oriented
  • Able to type accurately
  • Computer understanding/willingness to learn and work on a computer
  • Able to life waist high 40 pounds
  • Able to lift over the head 10 pounds
  • 20/20 correct vision
  • Can endure working around strong offensive odors
  • Must be able to work a minimum of three scheduled days a week for three hours each of those days during business M-F 8-5

Duties:

  1. Transport evidence from the Property Section to the Crime Lab and from the Crime Lab to the Property Section and maintain appropriate chain of custody information within the crime laboratory information management system (LIMS)
  2. Receive evidence into the crime lab from outside agencies and return evidence to outside agencies from the crime lab
  3. Accurately enter examination request data into LIMS and distribute requests of examination to the property work unit
  4. Scan casework documentation into LIMS
  5. Perform inventory checks of the crime laboratory's evidence vault
  6. Perform inventory of lab equipment, weapons and chemicals on a yearly basis
  7. Perform monthly and quarterly safety checks
  8. Shred laboratory documents on a monthly basis
  9. Assist lab personnel as required

VOLUNTEER MANAGER'S ASSISTANT
Qualifications :

  • Detailed oriented
  • Must be able to type accurately
  • Computer skills required/word/excel
  • Filing skills/organization skills required
  • Must be able to work business hours during the week a minimum of 2 hrs for 2 days a week

Duties:

  1. Assist the Community Liaison Officer/Volunteer Manager with record keeping
  2. Organize and keep track of volunteers time sheets/hours worked and yearly hours
  3. Set up file system and records management system
  4. Write monthly article for Police-Line on volunteers and happenings in the volunteer program
  5. Help organize events and yearly award ceremony for volunteers
  6. Assist Community Liaison Officer/Volunteer Manager as needed with projects for the Office of the Chief

K9 UNIT VOLUNTEER - The Scottsdale K9 Unit in partnership with the Mesa, Phoenix PD and Scottsdale Healthcare K9 Unit plan and coordinate the Arizona Law Enforcement Desert Dog K9 Trials.  This will be the 7th year of the trials.  The dates for the trials will be April 17-19th, 2009.  More than 54 K9 teams participate coming from all over the state and California.  There are numerous vendors that also attend with merchandise.  This is a large event which takes many months to plan and coordinate.

  • Have good phone skills for contacting/interacting with local business' and citizens
  • Must have some computer knowledge i.e. familiar with Word and Excel
  • Must be able to work a minimum of three scheduled days a week for three hours each day.

Duties:

  1. Will assist in the planning, coordination and finally the running of the Desert Dof K9 Trials
  2. Contacting local business for support and donations
  3. Assist in coordinating the awards dinner and hotel arrangements for out of state agencies
  4. Will work with K9 Unit in contacting and coordinating all vendors and vendorr booth space
  5. Will work with the K9 Unit in designing and planning the trials t-shirt and program
  6. Will work with K9 Unit in coordinating all donated merchandise for the raffle

MUSEUM PROJECT VOLUNTEER
Qualifications :

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Outgoing and personable
  • Have some museum experience & qualifications
  • Could have retail merchandising experience &/or a designer background
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Be outgoing and personable
  • Be able to network with other museums and do research on history of SPD
  • Must be able to work 2 days per week as needed for 2 hours per day minimum

Duties:

  1. Will be responsible for cataloging, sorting and displaying items in the PD museum
  2. Will be responsible for creating venues for items displayed
  3. Will be responsible to create displays and showcase artifacts
  4. Will report to Community Liaison Officer and the Officer of the Chief

MUSEUM CAFE BARRISTA VOLUNTEER
Qualifications:

  • Must be personable
  • Detail oriented
  • Have good time management skills
  • Have customer service/retail/food service skills
  • Have a good handlers card (can obtain once on staff)
  • Must be able to work at least 2-3 days for 3-4 hours in the morning, possibly some afternoon but flexible

Duties:

  1. Will be responsible for operation of the Cafe during designated hours of service
  2. Display CiPAAS merchandise for purchase during work hours
  3. Serve coffee/muffins/cookies, etc at the headquarters building of Scottsdale Police Department, 8401 E Indian School during specific hours of operation
  4. Prepare, serve and clean up after service

PHOTOGRAPHER VOLUNTEER
Qualifications:

  • Must have knowledge/experience/background of photography (professionally or personally)
  • Must be able to operate a digital camera
  • Have computer skills and knowledge about downloading photographs, etc
  • Personable and outgoing
  • Be able to work on Apple computer system to create videos of photographs taken (can learn system once on staff) 

Duties:

  1. Work for the Office of the Chief with both of the Community Relations Unit & the Public Information Office
  2. Must be available during Citizens Academy Program which consists of 12 consecutive Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 (September through November), 12 consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 (March through May)
  3. When Citizens Academy is not in session, must be available for department projects but work around volunteer schedule and availability.
  4. Hours and days will vary but must be available to commit no more than 4 hours per session depending on project assignment

CONSTRUCTION/DISPLAY VOLUNTEER
Qualifications:

  • Must have construction/building background or experience/talent in construction of display units
  • Detail oriented
  • Time management skills
  • Creative building skills and use of different materials and tools
  • Must have own tools and work area to build displays
  • Have basic construction skills including painting, carpentry, possible electrical installations
Duties:

  1. Construct display units, shelvings, etc for museum project
  2. Work with museum committee on items to be consturcted and or areas to be painted or prepared for installation of artifacts to be displayed
  3. Report to Museum Curator and Office of the Chief
