Apprentice Program

Program Objectives

  • Assist Handlebar Helpers with reconditioning the bikes needed to sustain the program
  • Provide an opportunity for young people to learn bicycle repair and maintenance

Rewards

  • Earn a bike after completion of 35 shop hours
  • Learn all phases of bicycle repair and maintenance
Who Can Join
  • program is for 12 to 17 year-olds who attend school regularly
  • open to only Scottsdale residents and students of Scottsdale schools
  • mechanical aptitude or experience a plus, but not required

What's Expected

  • complete an application and interview process
  • be able and willing to work as a member of a goal-oriented team
  • meet mutually established schedule commitments

Lead Apprentice Program

Program Objectives

  • assist Handlebar Helpers with reconditioning the bikes needed to sustain the program
  • train youth to become leaders by allowing them to monitor youth in the apprentice program
Rewards
  • turn their shop hours in for rewards
  • attend offsite visits and training at other local bike shops
Who Can Join
  • program is for 13 to 17 year-olds who attend school regularly
  • must have completed apprentice program and be in good standing with the shop
  • open to Scottsdale residents and students of Scottsdale schools
