Project History
The first step of this project consisted of re-evaluating and redefining the Streetscape Guidelines for the McDowell Road Corridor established in 1996. The scope for the update study included: • Analyzing current streetscape design and its effectiveness as implemented. • Reviewing and updating plant palette and hardscape elements. • Outlining opportunities for gateway features and possible designs. • Outlining opportunities for creating a unifying theme for McDowell Road. In February of 2003, the Development Review Board approved the revised guidelines as proposed by EDAW, the City’s design consultant in this effort. In March of 2003, the City retained EDAW to complete the master plan and construction drawings necessary to implement the streetscape improvements via the Papago Streetscape Improvement Program. This program consists of $6 M to implement streetscape improvements along the corridor, reflecting the design guidelines. |
