Interpretive Tours

Discover the Sonoran Desert!  Guided Interpretive Tours are offered every Tuesday to Sunday from November through April.  Participants learn interesting facts about the park flora and fauna, Hohokam history, and park geology as they hike 5/8ths of a mile to the Grandview Lookout area, where the tour ends.  Tours begin at 10a.m. and last approximately two hours.  Be prepared to hike portions of steep, rocky trail at a leisurely pace with many stops along the way.  Wear comfortable outdoor clothing, hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and carry plenty of water.

Tours are not offered during inclement weather, holidays or holiday weekends.

Moonlit Walks

See the desert come to life as the Moon rises.  Enjoy a walk at Pinnacle Peak Trail when the Moon illuminates the park!  Watch for signs of nocturnal wildlife.   Moon lit walks are conducted on or near the date of the full moon during the cooler months of November to February.  Participants will walk 5/8ths of a mile on portions of steep, rocky trail to the Grandview Lookout area.  Hikes last approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.  Participants should wear warm clothing and comfortable hiking shoes.  Carry water, and bring a flashlight.  Registration is required.

Moonlit walks are cancelled if rainy or overcast weather conditions exist.  Call the afternoon of the hike to reconfirm.

Astronomy Evenings

Enjoy a beautiful desert evening under the stars and learn about some of the objects visible in the night sky.  A short talk explaining interesting facts about the solar system and the galaxy around the planet earth is followed by observing the moon, several planets, multiple star systems, globular clusters and nebulae through a celestron telescope.  Beginners are welcome and the explanation will be kept at a novice level.  No hiking is required for this very special event. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and a small penlight flashlight for this outdoor event.  Astronomy Evenings are offered during the months of November to March.

Wildflower Walks

See Pinnacle Peak in all its glory when the wildflowers begin to bloom!  Join a guided walk during peak wildflower season as each week brings additional flower species to the desert “stage”.  The various annuals and perennials will be identified and discussed during the first portion of the hike.  Afterwards, hike to the mile marker to take photos during the second portion of the hike.  Wear comfortable outdoor clothing, hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and carry plenty of water.   Participants should plan on arriving 15 minutes early.

Specialty Events/Exhibits

Throughout the year, Pinnacle Peak Park will host special events such as reptile and raptor exhibits, guest speakers and lectures.  Please call the park to see if one is scheduled in the near future.
