Celebracin Comunitaria! takes place Oct. 1 Hispanic heritage event set for Eldorado Park

Residents are invited to Hispanic Heritage Celebracin Comunitaria!, a free family event on Oct. 1 celebrating the traditions and contributions of the Hispanic world community.

This wonderful family event takes place from 4 to 9 p.m. at Eldorado Park, 1909 N Miller Road. There will be continuous live entertainment from bands, singers, and dancers representing different Latin countries, food vendors showcasing cuisine from various Hispanic countries, educational booths promoting the richness of different Hispanic cultures and countries and special attractions for kids.

The celebration includes free, unlimited swimming in the new Eldorado Park Pool from 5 to 8 p.m.

Scottsdale is also showcasing prominent Hispanic leaders in its public libraries and city buildings this month through a series of banners depicting their contributions.

The notable individuals are:

  • David G. Faragut, an admiral in the Union Navy and the most famous Hispanic soldier in the Civil War;
  • Severo Ochoa, a recipient of the Nobel Prize in 1939 for his contributions to medicine;
  • Maria Irene Fornes, who has written more than 35 plays and has received international exposure for her work; and
  • Ellen Ochoa the first Hispanic woman to become an astronaut and fly into space.
