The annual event recognizes outstanding contributions to the physical environment of
Valley communities in the categories of building and structures, site development and
landscape, art in public places, open space & connectivity, environmental education
and environmental stewardship.
The Presidents Award was presented to the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, formerly
the McDowell Sonoran Land Trust, for creating a powerful community alliance leading to the
preservation of 57 square miles -- on third of the city of Scottsdale -- as natural,
public open space.
The Presidents Award goes to one honoree selected from among all Crescordia
category winners in the environmental excellence competition.
The city of Scottsdale received a first-place Crescordia in the category of Livable
Cities/Resource management for being the first city in the nation to adopt the LEED gold
standard. The measure mandates that all new city buildings and remodels be certified at
the Leadership and Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold level.
Scottsdale also received a merit award in the Environmental Education/Communication
category for its comprehensive community revitalization program, which promotes water
conservation, green building practices and a wide variety of reinvestment strategies.
A traveling display that features all the award finalists is on exhibit on the first
floor of One Civic Center, 7447 E Indian School Road in Scottsdales civic center
complex.
