Scottsdale firefighters and police officers raised $1,900 for the victims of Hurricane
Katrina during a joint car wash on Saturday morning. The proceeds, which were donated to
the Salvation Army's Hurricane Relief Fund, will feed 19 families for two days and provide
them with two cases of drinking water and one household clean-up kit containing brooms,
mops, buckets and cleaning supplies. The event was held at The Carwasher, 7501 E. Indian
School Road in Scottsdale.
Among the incredible examples of kindness shown during the event:
- A Scottsdale resident pulled into the car wash, but immediately made a U-Turn in the
driveway. She told a Scottsdale Fire employee that her car didn't need a wash, but she
heard about the event on television and wanted to make a cash donation to the relief
effort.
- Employees at The Carwasher gathered together as the event was ending and decided to
donate money from their tip jar. They presented the Salvation Army with $23 in cash.
Special thanks to The Carwasher for their kindness and generosity, and to the Salvation
Army for sending two representatives during a very busy time for the agency. Thanks also
to KTAR 620 AM and Power 92.3 FM for broadcasting live from the car wash and getting the
word out.
