Scottsdale is working to retrofit the temporary tent at WestWorld with Desert Colors.

Scottsdale’s WestWorld will soon have a new venue to host consumer trade shows, auctions and other special events. It’s a 120,000 square-foot tent adorned with a giant American flag on each side.

The structure, when completed later this month, will be the largest clear-span tent in North America.

It was originally built for the 2001 Bakersfield, Calif., Business to Business Expo and has hosted numerous dignitaries including former President George H. Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Scottsdale purchased the tent this summer for roughly $2 million and will invest another $1 million in lights, foundation and other site improvements. The structure will help host many of WestWorld’s annual shows and events, including the Barrett-Jackson Car Auction and the Goodguys Hot Rod Show.

The tent’s first event will be the East Meets West Custom Motor Cycle Show scheduled for Oct. 8-9, followed by the Home Improvement Show Oct. 28-30, and the Originals Holiday Gift Show Nov. 4-6.

WestWorld, Scottsdale’s equestrian and special events center, is located at 16601 N. Pima Road. For more information on the facility and its upcoming scheduled of events, go to: www.scottsdaleaz.gov/westworld.
