Hurricane Katrina has devastated portions of the Gulf Coast and placed tremendous strain on the region’s emergency and social services.

Scottsdale residents who want to assist in the relief effort can donate money through agencies listed on the Federal Emergency Management Agency web site at www.fema.gov not a part of the city web site (gif 340 b).

The city of Scottsdale is encouraging employees to make a personal and professional commitment to help out, by donating and by being ready to help with equipment or expertise as needed.

City staff is taking inventory of equipment and other resources and stands ready to assist if asked by federal agencies managing the relief effort.

FEMA has issued a nationwide request to cities for 1,000, two-person firefighter teams that meet its emergency response standards. The Scottsdale Fire Department is offering to send at least one team. FEMA will be determining how teams are selected and deployed.

The city also has established an employee task force that is exploring both organizational and community efforts to assist in the hurricane recovery effort.
