Handlebar Helpers

Handlebar Helpers Logo
Handlebar Helpers is a volunteer program that teaches bike maintenance through our apprentice program and offers free bicycles for volunteerism. All bicycles have been donated to the Handlebar Helpers shop where they are reconditioned by our apprentice and volunteer programs. Those bikes are then distributed through our "Earn a Bike" and apprentice programs. We also offer a limited number of bicycles for sale in our shop.

Apprentice Program

Our apprentice program is for Scottsdale youth ages 12-17 and teaches bicycle repair and maintenance. We also offer a lead apprentice program for youth who want to continue in the program after completing the initial apprentice program.

Earn a Bike Program

The "Earn a Bike" Program promotes service to the community by offering free bicycles to those who volunteer in the valley. Participants may earn a bike with as little as 30 hours of volunteer time.

Donate a Bike

Bring the bike to our shop at Paiute Neighborhood Center on the west side of the property, building #6 (map). If you cannot bring your bike for donation during operating hours, staff at the Paiute Neighborhood Center can accept your donation. Handlebar Helpers bike shop is equipped to repair donated bicycles with basic wear and tear. We are unable to accept donations of unusable bicycles and parts. If you have questions, please call or email Juan Gonzalez (jugonzalez@ScottsdaleAZ.gov) at 480-312-0002.

The Handlebar Helpers shop also accepts monetary donations, bike accessories and parts. Donations to Handlebar Helpers are tax deductible; a receipt will be provided.

Handlebar Helpers is always looking for volunteers to assist in our shop. You must be over the age of 18 and have adequate knowledge of bike mechanics.
