Runway usage during phase one
The Taxiway "A" Reconstruction Project to reconstruct and overlay/seal coat the entire length of this taxiway began Jan. 22. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 210 days and has been divided into five phases. Phase one is under way now.
In order to reduce the number of runway crossings and enhance safety during phase one, the FAA Air Traffic Control tower will use RWY 21 during calm wind conditions.
This phasing will ensure that most users located on the west side of the airport are always able to gain access to the runway while the project is taking place.
The taxiway connects directly to the runway at 14 locations. The FAA will not allow work to take place within 200 feet oft he runway center line while takeoffs and landings are taking place. Therefore, the runway will have to be closed at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the week (Monday through Fridays only) in order to complete that work.
First block of overnight runway closures
The first block of overnight runway closures for the Taxiway “A” reconstruction project has been established. The runway will need to be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m, Monday through Friday nights only (no Saturday and Sunday night closures) between January 22 to February 16. These closures are needed in order to complete the work that needs to take place adjacent to the runway for phase 1 of the project.
Second block of overnight runway closures
The second block of overnight runway closures for phase one of the Taxiway “A” reconstruction project has been established. The runway will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday nights from Feb. 26 to Mar. 30 in order to complete the work that needs to take place adjacent to the runway. As with the first block, the runway will not be closed on Saturday or Sunday nights during this period.
Additional overnight (9 P.M. to 6 A.M.) runway closures will be needed to complete this work during the project. The closures will be scattered throughout the project timeline in blocks varying from 10 to 45 nights at a time. The Aviation Department will provide overnight runway closure notices to the airport users as far in advance as possible for each of the phases.
