General Plan Annual Report for 2016 is available online. The report lists 2016 major public and private accomplishments that implemented the community's goals and policies outlined in the 2001 Scottsdale General Plan. Publishing the report also fulfills the state-mandated requirement for General Plan annual review.
Report shows continuing growth for commercial occupancy. Scottsdale's average office vacancy rate for the third-quarter of this fiscal year was 13.3 percent compared to the metro Phoenix rate of 15.3 percent. As of March 31, the Economic Development office completed 84 business retention and expansion visits and assisted in the creation or retention of 835 jobs at nine companies. Read the report.
Scottsdale native, first mayor's wife died. Lorraine White, wife of the city's first mayor Malcolm White, died April 28. She attended Scottsdale High School and graduated from Arizona State Teaching College (later known as Arizona State University). She went on to teach in the Madison School District in Phoenix and overseas in Landsberg, Germany. Lorraine was crowned Miss Scottsdale in 1947. Read Lorraine's obit.

Attend free Scottsdale Philharmonic concert Sunday. Attend this professional symphony orchestra concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Scottsdale Bible Church, 7601 E. Shea Blvd. The group receives support through the city's Community Event Funding program.
Listen to the music at railroad park's free Sunday night concert. Retro '80s band Rock Lobster takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Bring a blanket, chairs and snacks - or buy munchies on-site. Train and carousel tickets are $2 each with kids 2 and younger riding free with a paying adult. Concerts continue through July 2.

Discounted family pool passes available through May 29. The family pass allows unlimited public swim, lap swim and fitness center visits from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Pass cost depends on pool location.
City hosts meeting on landlord tenant rights and responsibilities. Attend this meeting to learn about how to protect yourself - whether you're a landlord or a tenant. It takes place Tuesday, May 23, at Paiute Neighborhood Center, 6535 E. Osborn Road. The meeting is divided into two sessions. The first is geared for landlords and takes place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The second is for tenants and takes place from 6 to 8 p.m.
Scottsdale Public Library unveils new system to renew library cards. Library card holders will be notified throughout the year to visit any library branch to verify information. Card holders are required to show proof of city or county residency.
Registration ongoing for summer camp programs. Scottsdale parks and recreation camps are available for those in first through eighth grades and run June 5-July 28. Kids will participate in sports, fitness competitions, science experiments, craft projects, arts, special events, excursions and more.
Vista del Camino serves as hydration station through September. These stations help protect vulnerable individuals during the summer by providing relief from the heat. Vista is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Water Conservation hosts drip irrigation workshop. Discover simple tricks for designing, installing and maintaining an efficient drip irrigation system. The free program runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Civic Center Library.
Chaparral Pool hosts free family fun Saturday. Kick off the summer at "Big Splash at Chap" from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 20. The event features swim lessons, refreshments, safety demonstrations and games. Cap off the event with the movie "Moana."
Scottsdale offers free swim lessons Sunday. Take part in a free swim lesson at McDowell Mountain Ranch Aquatic and Fitness Center. New Scottsdale swim instructors are conducting these lessons to help them refine skills. Space is limited. Call McDowell Mountain Ranch at 480-312-6677 to register.
