Scottsdale Update - April 6, 2017

HEADLINES

Scottsdale's first microlibrary opens Tuesday at Chaparral Park. Scottsdale Public Library will make books more easily available by opening "Books2go" microlibraries at locations throughout the city. You're invited to the first microlibrary ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11. Books2Go libraries will be filled with books donated by the community. No checkout or return will be required - borrow books and return them on the honor system.

Stadium campout sleepover canceled. Due to light registration this weekend event has been canceled. Find other Parks and Recreation events here.

EVENTS

Run the Runway race offers "plane" old fun. This one-of-a-kind race, Run the Runway, takes off Saturday, April 8, at Scottsdale Airport. Family fun follows. Use promo code "airplane" for a 25 percent discount.

Please your palate this weekend at the Scottsdale Culinary Festival. Expert chefs, scrumptious food creations and enthralling entertainment are all part of the mix, culminating with the Great Arizona Picnic.

Cycle the Arts pedals off Sunday. Hop on your bike and get a personal look at some of the Valley's best public art. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Scottsdale Museum of the West, 3830 N. Marshall Way. Helmets are required.

Official state historian shares quips about growing up in Arizona. Enjoy Marshall Trimble's amusing stories about small town happenings. The program takes place from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West.

Learn how to save memorable moments. Entrust your memories to paper at a free program from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Appaloosa Library. Supplies provided.

Library hosts Arizona Opera presentation of Rusalka, The Little Mermaid. Dvo?ák's "Rusalka" takes you on an underwater adventure as the mermaid yearns to be part of our world. The free program is at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Civic Center Library.

Learn how to grow your business at digital media classes. Eureka Loft at Civic Center Library hosts "Video Editing for Business" at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. Bring your laptop if you have editing software.

Entertainment Extravaganza showcases senior talent. Scottsdale Senior Services' signature variety show returns at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Free admission with a canned food donation for Vista del Camino's Food Bank.
