Owners in a commercial office park area north of WestWorld can decide whether they want to pay to bury planned power lines underground.
Arizona Public Service will build a new 69kV power line to connect a substation north of Raintree Drive and 90th Street with another at 91st Street north of Bell Road. Plans call to place the new line on steel poles about 65 feet tall.
Property owners in the area submitted petitions to form an underground utility facilities improvement district through which property owners would pay the cost of placing those power lines underground. The assessment would occur over a 15-year period.
The improvement district will be formed, the properties assessed, and the power lines buried underground only if approved by a majority of property owners within its proposed boundaries.
An election is underway - affected property owners should have received a ballot and affidavit in the mail, and must return both to the Scottsdale City Clerk's Office by 7 p.m. Thursday, March 2.
