||At 10:10 pm, police responded to a residence in the 8200 blk of E. Monte Vista in reference to a violent assault and robbery. Officers arrived and found the suspect had fled in the victim's vehicle.
The victims were located inside the residence. Both had head wounds caused by blunt instruments and were conscious. The female victim told officers that her son had assaulted her then a male occupant of the residence. Her son lives at that address part time, and with his grandmother, part time, in the 4600 Blk. of N. 68th Street. Victims told police that the suspect confronted mom in the kitchen demanding money. When she refused, he hit her in the head with a glass blender carafe.
A male who lives in a separate residence on the property came in the front door and immediately was confronted by the suspect in the hallway. The suspect struck the second (male) victim in the head numerous times with a collapsible metal baton. The second victim went unconscious near the front door of the residence, which is when the suspect took his wallet. The suspect then took his mother's vehicle, a white Toyota SUV, and fled the scene.
During the assault, the suspect made threats against his grandmother. Officers responded to the grandmother's residence to check on the grandmother's welfare. The suspect was not there and an officer stayed with the grandmother as protection until the suspect was located and captured.
Officers entered the stolen vehicle into the computer. At around 4:00 am, a Phoenix Police patrol officer located the stolen vehicle on east Camelback Road and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled into the grandmother's apartment complex in the 4600 Blk. of N. 68th Street, where the Phoenix officers lost sight of the driver. Sometime after that, the suspect knocked on grandmother's door, while the Scottsdale officer was inside. The suspect being confronted by the Scottsdale officer, fled into a friend's apartment next to the grandmother's apartment. Officers contacted the female occupant of that apartment and she told them that he was inside. She came to the front door and the suspect jumped from the 2nd floor balcony onto the roof. A Phoenix PD aircraft located the suspect on the roof and watched him jump onto the balcony of an unoccupied apartment. Officers entered the vacant apartment and the suspect jumped from the second floor balcony onto the ground, causing a leg injury. He was taken into custody at this point.
The suspect was transported to SHC-Osborn by SFD and released to police custody a few hours later. He remains in police custody as of this writing. The suspect has an extensive arrest record with SPD, including drug related charges, thefts, and disorderly conduct. His current charges are 2 counts of Aggravated Assault and 2 counts of Armed Robbery.
The 2 victims from the Monte Vista house were transported to SHC-Osborn, where they were treated and released. There suspect was the only injury at the 68th Street scene.
