When police arrived, the suspect was gone, however, he was located a few blocks away by officers. After a brief foot chase, he was arrested.

The female victim advised officers that she broke up with MARTINEZ 3 months prior and he showed up at her residence this afternoon. She did not let him in, however, he broke down the patio door and forced his way into the apartment. Once inside, he assaulted the victim by grabbing her. She was not seriously injured. At one point during the incident, MARTINEZ threw her dog, a Yorkshire Terrier, against the breakfast bar, causing injury to the dog. The officers on scene noted the dog had blood around it's mouth and was limping. The officers noted the patio doer had been smashed from its frame and was on the floor of the apartment.

MARTINEZ was arrested and charged with: Criminal Damage, Felony Trespass, Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Animal Cruelty, and Failure to Obey Police. He was held in custody and transferred to MCSO jail for court arraignment.
