Draft 2014 General Plan ready for public review

The public is invited to attend one of six open houses to learn about and comment on the 2014 draft General Plan.

They take place:
  • Wednesday, March 12, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Mountain View Community Center, 8625 E. Mountain View Road
  • Thursday, March 13, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:45 to 6:45 p.m., Appaloosa Library, 7377 E. Silverstone Drive
  • Wednesday, March 19, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., SkySong, 1475 N. Scottsdale Road
The same content will be presented at all open houses.

The General Plan is a statement of goals and policies that work as the primary tool for guiding the future development and character of the city over the next 10 to 20 years. State law requires updates of adopted General Plans every 10 years.

The city’s General Plan is divided among seven chapters, which include 22 elements. The open houses will have staffed “stations” representing each chapter, which include:
  • Lifestyle and Character
  • Neighborhoods
  • Economic Vitality
  • Open Space
  • Sustainability
  • Transportation
  • Public Services and Facilities
Comments will be considered through mid-April. The plan will be refined, as appropriate, and then presented to the City Council in May. If the City Council adopts the draft plan, voters will consider ratifying it in a November election.

Those unable to attend the open houses can learn more and comment on the General Plan website.
