The SPD Communications center received a 911 call from this residence. There was nobody on the other end of the call and the line was disconnected. 911 a operator attempted to call the residence back, but got no answer. Two Scottsdale police officers responded to the house and found an unsecured door. The officers entered the house to check the welfare of any occupants.
During their cursory search, the officers located Gordon Durack (52 YOA) in a bedroom lying on the bed. The room was dark and Durack was illuminated by the officer’s flashlights. The officers identified themselves as Scottsdale police officers. The officers saw that there was a firearm next to Durack, so they yelled commands for him to not touch the gun. Durack ignored commands and pulled the gun upward in the officers' direction. One officer fired a single shot from his service pistol which did not strike Durack. At the same time the officer fired, Durack brought the gun up to his own head and fired one round. Durack lived with one roommate, who was not home at the time of the shooting.
