Motorized tour operators can apply for Preserve trial program

Motorized tour operators can apply to participate in a nine-month trial program to provide guided tours in a small portion of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

The Scottsdale City Council recently supported a test period, from Sept. 1, 2013 - May 31, 2014, for tour companies to offer service along a 3.6 mile route near Granite Mountain. No provision exists for these motorized tours to be permitted beyond this trial period.

The city purchased the Granite Mountain area land from the state, which allowed motorized vehicles. Scottsdale's ordinance, however, prohibits motorized vehicles in the preserve.
