The World Series Champion San Francisco Giants are back on the field and Scottsdale is hosting a series of events this month to celebrate the team and the Cactus League season.

The Giants open their 2013 spring training season Saturday, Feb. 23, at Scottsdale Stadium against the Los Angeles Angels. The Giants will play a total of 17 games at Scottsdale Stadium this spring. For schedule and ticket information, visit: spring training.

The Play Ball Cactus League Experience

The Play Ball Cactus League Experience is hosting a unique baseball memorabilia collection at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library through March.

The exhibit features one-of-a-kind items from the 2012 World Series and dozens of rare historic collectables from Cactus League teams past and present. The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular library hours.

The library is located at 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd. – just a few minutes’ walk from Scottsdale Stadium.

The Cactus League Legacy Trail

The Cactus League Legacy Trail is a self-guided tour of historic hangouts and modern-day venues that reflect the heritage, culture and energy of Valley spring training. The Cactus League Legacy Trail consists of 13 stops that provide fans with an intimate look at the history and characters of Valley spring training.

Baseball pin and poster collectables

Baseball fans visiting Scottsdale for spring training can take home more than great memories. The city and several partners are offering collectable pins and posters at selected sites. To earn a pin or poster, fans just need to show a 2013 Giants home spring training ticket or a sales receipt from a Scottsdale business.
The pins and posters will be available at several locations, including:

• Downtown information carts located at Main Street and Brown Avenue and Fifth Avenue and Stetson Drive.
• The Scottsdale Historical Museum, 7333 East Scottsdale Mall     

“Storytellers” and more

Several free, baseball-themed programs also are scheduled this season at the Civic Center Library. Presented by Play Ball Experience, Scottsdale Libraries and Scottsdale Public Art, they include  The Cactus League Story – This fun and insightful multimedia presentation by vagabond baseball writer Charlie Vascellero takes place at 11 a.m. March 15.

Free trolley service
