Residents to unveil Vision Statement for General Plan 2014

The public is invited to an open house to learn about and comment on a community-created Vision Statement and Community Values for the city’s General Plan 2014. The open house will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Mountain View Community Center, 8625 E. Mountain View Road. A formal presentation outlining the visioning process begins at 6 p.m.

About 100 stakeholders recently gathered at a three-day Town Hall to craft the statements. The Town Hall was the first step in the two-year General Plan process, which will help guide how the city matures over the next 20 years. The open house kicks off the communitywide participation that will take place as the process continues.

A representative from Arizona Town Hall and several Town Hall participants will present the Vision and Values. They also will share their experiences as participants and reveal the interesting dialogue that transpired during the Town Hall.

The City Council approved a contract in December with the nonprofit Arizona Town Hall organization to put together the Visioning Scottsdale Town Hall. In addition to facilitating conversation, the organization administered the application process to ensure that a broad, cross-section of the community was selected to participate. Approximately 300 people applied to participate in the Town Hall.
