Scottsdale’s Aquatics program swimmingly captures award

The city of Scottsdale’s Aquatics program received a "Best Overall Commitment to Aquatics" honor from Aquatics International magazine. The “Best of Aquatics” awards celebrate a range of outstanding facilities, from waterpark resorts to universities and wellness centers. Several factors are considered when selecting honorees including programming, promotional materials, aquatic amenities and community involvement. Judges touted the city’s program for its depth of class offerings and commitment to water safety education.

The city operates three year-round outdoor pools and a lessons-only seasonal pool:

  • Chaparral Aquatic Center, 5401 N. Hayden Road: This facility hosts summer swim lessons only. The unique free-form pool resembles a lake front. It includes 10 lap lanes, a diving well with one 1-meter diving board, zero-depth entry, interactive water features and a shallow wading area.
  • Cactus Aquatic & Fitness Center, 7202 E. Cactus Road: This center is one of the premiere competitive and recreational facilities in the state. The Olympic-size, 50-meter heated pool can be set up in both long and short courses. In addition, the pool has three 1-meter and two 3-meter diving boards.
  • Eldorado Aquatic & Fitness Center, 2301 N. Miller Road: This facility includes a 13-lane, 25-yard lap pool, a diving well with two 1-meter and two 3-meter diving boards, two water slides, zero-depth entry, a play pool with a water playground and a therapy pool.
  • McDowell Mountain Ranch Park and Aquatic Center, 15525 N. Thompson Peak Parkway:  This facility includes an eight-lane, 25-yard lap pool, a dive well with two 1-meter and two 3-meter diving boards, a large tube water slide, a 600-foot lazy river, zero-depth entry into a large play pool, water play features and an interactive spray pad.

The city offers a variety of education opportunities including April Pools Day, Water Safety Day and critical incident training.
