Chase down water leaks and celebrate Fix a Leak Week

A continuously running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons a water a day!  And a real-life running toilet in a 4-mile race is a rare sight to see. Both types of toilets are featured in this year’s Fix a Leak Week celebrations to chase down water leaks.

Scottsdale is kicking off Fix a Leak Week March 12 through 18 with the “One for Water 4-mile Race” Saturday, March 10, 8 a.m. at Rio Vista Community Park in Peoria.

Registration is just $25 and includes a reusable water bottle, t-shirt, snacks and a free family festival after the run with music, water conservation information, hands-on leak repair demonstrations…and the world-famous mascot - “Leaky Loo McFlapper”.

Scottsdale’s Water Conservation office is partnering with the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA) to create this fun, educational family-friendly event. Working together, we are One for Water™.

So grab your family, friends and running shoes and help chase down water leaks. Whether you walk or run, you’ll help create awareness for fixing leaks and encourage water efficiency in our homes, landscapes and businesses.

Scottsdale’s Water Conservation Office reminds you that fixing water leaks is simple, easy to do, relatively inexpensive and can save you as much as ten percent or more on water bills each month.

Water leaks can add up to 10,000 gallons of water wasted each year in your home. That’s enough to fill a backyard swimming pool. The most common places to find leaks in the home include toilets, drippy faucets and shower heads, drip irrigation and sprinkler systems and pools.

Remember, a running toilet is only funny when it’s a mascot.
