EMHS Training Classes
The Emergency Management/Homeland Security Bureau of the City of Scottsdale offers training opportunities and presentations on Homeland Security and emergency/disaster preparedness issues. Registration is required as space is limited.

This presentation will discuss the need for preparedness and simple steps you can take to protect your family and loved ones in the event of an emergency. Specifically, the seminars will discuss creating a disaster supply kit, making a family disaster plan, and a list of resources to help each member of the family protect themselves. |

| Event Description: |
The CERT program trains the community in basic disaster prevention and response skills such as disaster preparedness, fire suppression, disaster medical operations, search and rescue, organization and disaster psychology.
This six-week course culminates in a disaster simulation (Nov 10). Classes are hands-on, intensive, and designed to offer students decision making and practical skills needed to safely assist families, neighbors and coworkers in the event of an emergency or disaster.
CERT training is free, but pre-registration is mandatory as class size is limited. |

| Event Description: | This class will teach how to properly identify and report significant weather phenomena to the National Weather Service (NWS). Even with sophisticated technology like radar and sateliites, the NWS still needs ground truth information from trained weather spotters. Students will learn about how thunderstorms work, how to identify cloud features associated with microbursts and tornadoes, visually estimate wind speeds, and how repots tie in to warnings and advisories issued by the NWS. In addition, students will learn about all of the services available from the NWS. The Skywarn Storm Spotter training is free, but pre-registration is required as class size is limited. |
