Don’t let burglars pose as city workers; call the police

Burglars posing as city water workers recently struck a Scottsdale residence, prompting the city to remind citizens that Water Resources employees will never ask to enter your home.

If someone claiming to be a city water employee asks to enter your home, call the police.

The latest incident occurred Dec. 17 at a residence in the 6600 block of East Cholla St.  Suspects entered a back yard gate and told the residents they were from the city’s water department, checking on contamination in the system.  Two male subjects were wearing navy colored t-shirts with a small white logo on the front.

While two men talked with the residents in the front and back of the residence, another entered the home, supposedly to check the water inside.  The victims later found that cash and a wallet were taken.

Scottsdale Water Resources Department employees will not ask for entry into residents’ homes.  Employees do, on occasion, enter residences to check on water quality or other water issues, but only at the request of the resident.

Water Resources employees will always have a city identification badge and will always provide a phone number for residents to call and verify their identity.

The city asks residents to be diligent about allowing any unsolicited workers inside their homes.  If you are familiar with their company, call first and check whether they are supposed to be calling on you.  If you have any concerns, don’t let them in, and call the police department to report your concerns.
