Special events to affect traffic in Scottsdale this weekend
A pair of special events this weekend will affect traffic in the Downtown Scottsdale area and as far north as Doubletree Ranch Road.
A concert sponsored by Alltel Wireless will feature the Goo Goo Dolls at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall amphitheater. Seating is limited to 2,000.
Traffic could be heavy for this event. While public parking structures and private parking lots will be available to accommodate concert goers, overflow parking and traffic may affect nearby neighborhoods.
On Sunday, Dec. 9 the Fiesta Bowl Half Marathon takes place in Scottsdale. The starting line is located on 75th Street just north of Indian School Road. The finish line is located on 75th Street just south of Indian School.
Indian Bend and Chaparral roads will be closed sporadically at Hayden Road while runners cross those intersections between 7:30 and 10 a.m. Sunday. Miller Road, north of Osborn Road, also will be closed as runners near completion of the race.
Lane restrictions also will be in place on the following road sections from 6 to 10:30 a.m. to accommodate runners participating in the half marathon:
- 75th Street from Second Street to north of Indian School.
- Camelback, 75th Street east to Scottsdale Road
- Scottsdale Road north to Doubletree Ranch Road
- Doubletree Ranch Road, east to Hayden
- Hayden, south to McDonald
- McDonald west to the Indian Bend Wash bike path
- The bike path south to the Jackrabbit/Hayden intersection
- Hayden south to the bike path entrance at Camelback
- The bike path south to the Indian School/Hayden intersection
- Hayden to Osborn Road
- Osborn, west to 75th Street
- 75th Street to Second Street
