  Nominations sought for “Diversity Champions”
 
Scottsdale is seeking nominations for “Diversity Champions,” individuals who have modeled the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and have enriched the community by empowering others.

Recognition as a Diversity Champion is open to all individuals living, working or volunteering within the Scottsdale community.

Diversity Champion nomination forms are available by contacting the City of Scottsdale’s Office

of Diversity and Dialogue at (480) 312-7772 or by e-mailing sesquivias@ScottsdaleAZ.gov.

Forms also can be obtained at 7575 E. Main St., Scottsdale, AZ 85251. All nominations must be submitted no later than Dec. 3, 2007.

The Diversity Champions will be recognized on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2008 when Community Celebrating Diversity and APS host the 14th annual Scottsdale Community Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dinner Celebration.

This year’s event features award-winning actor and activist Louis Gossett, Jr. As one of the most respected African American actors, Lou Gossett, Jr. has established a highly honored career earning an Emmy for Roots, an Oscar for An Officer and a Gentleman and a Golden Globe for The Josephine Baker Story. As an impassioned activist, Gossett firmly believes in giving back to the community by empowering all races and cultures.
