10-02-07 Release: Scottsdale projects, partnerships receive Environmental Excellence Awards

  receive Environmental Excellence Awards



Six projects with Scottsdale ties received honors during the Sept. 29 Valley Forward Association Environmental Excellence Awards.

The awards annually recognize outstanding contributions to the sustainability of Valley communities.

These local projects received Crescordia Awards, the program’s highest honor:

  • The annual Green Building Expo, which is a collaborative effort spearheaded by volunteers and supported by the cities of Scottsdale, Phoenix and Tempe. The free, two-day festival takes place this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 E. Second St. in Scottsdale. The Expo features exhibits, presentations and demonstrations of green building and sustainable living concepts for both residential and commercial applications.   • The Scottsdale Water Resource Department's Aquifer Sustainability Program, which is made up of an innovative set of water-resource management strategies that helped the city achieve “safe yield” in 2006 and reduced the city's reliance on groundwater.

  • Nori Sato's “Cactus Mirage”a Scottsdale Public Art piece located at the new McDowell Mountain Ranch Park and Aquatic Center.

  • DC Ranch, a Scottsdale planned community, was honored in the residential site development and landscape category for its revegetation of three undeveloped lots damaged by a man-made fire.

These local projects were honored with an Award of Merit:

  • The Hotel Valley Ho project in the Buildings and Structures Historic Preservation category.

  • The East Valley Bus Operation & Maintenance Facility, a joint project between the cities of Scottsdale and Tempe and the Valley Metro organization, in the public works buildings and structures category.
