10TH Annual Green Building Expo Announces Final Line-Up

With the growing emphasis on “green” and environmental sustainability, the 10th Annual Green Building Expo is expecting record-breaking attendance.  Scheduled for October 5-6, 2007, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, this FREE event is organized around the theme of “Urban Sustainability.” More than 100 exhibitors are set to provide builders and consumers with information on energy and resource efficiency, state-of-the-art products and services that support sustainability at home, the workplace and school.  Speaker highlights include two internationally recognized architects and authors, Ed Mazria, author of the renowned book, The Passive Solar Home and Dr. Sue Roaf, of Oxford, England, famed for her approach to energy efficient design.  Other speakers are lined up for a wide variety of green building topics including solar energy, xeriscaping, green interior design, transit-oriented development, green building standards and more.

On-going demonstrations will take place over the two days including making bricks out of recycled paper, composting and rainwater harvesting strategies.  For kids, the Resources for Health Roots and Shoots youth group will provide activities including decorating re-usable canvas bags, story corners, magic noodle building, seed plantings and eco-quizzes.  For families, At One Yoga will be providing family yoga sessions.  And for the adults, the Expo will showcase the first-ever Solar Cook-Off, a competition between 10 local cooks using solar ovens to prepare a tasty, healthy and meal cooked only by using the sun’s rays and rated by a panel of celebrity judges.  For everyone, The Cinema Verde Sustainable Film Festival will be running continuously during the Expo, presenting over twenty short films, documentaries and television shows, all focusing on sustainable living practices.

With more than 7,500 people expected to attend, this year’s Expo will teach attendees how to green their homes and office buildings, while educating them on topics like global warming, solar energy, and more. All programs and events are free and open to the public, with no registration required.   The Green Building Expo just won a Crescordia Award from Valley Forward Association for Highest Honors in Environmental Education.  It is a unique multi-city partnership, hosted by the Cities of Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe.  It is organized by employees of each city, along with many passionate volunteers who are professionals in the fields of architecture, environmental design, landscape design, green construction, and solar technology.
