Voice of the People Awards recognize high community ratings
Two awards recently earned by the city of Scottsdale recognize the city’s nationally-high customer ratings for city services and programs.
The Voice of the People Awards are given by the International City/County Management Association and the National Research Center to communities that earn high marks from their residents as reported in the National Citizen Survey, a uniform survey tool used by local governments across the U.S. to assess resident satisfaction with community amenities and government services.
Scottsdale is among nine cities nationwide to earn a Voice of the People award for excellence based on high resident satisfaction with city garbage and recycling services, and recreation programs and classes as reported in the 2010 survey:
- 92 percent rated city garbage collection services “excellent” or “good”
- 87 percent rated recycling services “excellent” or “good”
- 85 percent rated recreation programs and classes “excellent” or “good”
Additionally, Scottsdale is among seven cities nationwide to earn a Voice of the People award for transformation, which is based on significant improvement in service quality between the most recent two surveys. A number of city services showed marked improvement between the 2006 and 2010 surveys:
- 95 percent rated ambulance and emergency medical services “excellent” or “good” in 2010, a substantial improvement over the 2006 rating of 92 percent
- 93 percent rated city parks “excellent” or “good” (2006 – 84 percent)
- 90 percent rated police services “excellent” or “good” (2006 – 82 percent)
- 88 percent rated the overall quality of city services “excellent” or “good” (2006 – 83 percent)
- 72 percent rated code enforcement services “excellent” or “good” (2006 – 59 percent)
