School’s back – be vigilant and keep our children safe
It’s back to school time in Scottsdale. School zones will be active and school busses will be on the road picking up children beginning Monday, Aug. 8.
The Scottsdale Police Department and the Scottsdale Unified School District remind drivers that they need to do their part to keep kids safe as they walk and bike to school.
“School zone traffic laws are in place to keep kids safe,” said Scottsdale Traffic Unit Sgt. Jim Dear. “Scottsdale police traffic officers will be out in full force, making sure motorists obey the rules in school zones and around buses.”
Whether taking children to school or just driving through a school zone, everyone can do their part to keep kids safe.
All Scottsdale school zones are 15 mph. Parents should give themselves plenty of time when leaving home to safely drop off or pick up children. School zones are clearly marked and many have crossing guards nearby wearing brightly colored vests to assist children who are walking, bicycling, and loading and unloading from buses.
Police officers will be actively enforcing traffic laws in these areas to ensure student safety.
