Participate in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson
In Maricopa County this year, 18 people have drowned . . . the second leading cause of unintended injury related death for children 1 to 14. Teaching children how to swim is an important step to prevent drowning.
To assist with this effort, the city of Scottsdale’s Aquatics program is inviting residents to participate in the “World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.” It will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the Chaparral Aquatic Facility, 5401 N. Hayden Road.
To register for this free event, go online to http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/Topics/Recreation, click on “Recreation Classes,” then type in class code 90011. You can also register at any Scottsdale aquatic center. For a list of locations, visit http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/sports/aquatics.
The 2010 event set the first Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson. Nearly 4,000 adults and children representing five countries on three continents participated. Learn more about the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at http://www.worldslargestswimminglesson.org/.
