City of Scottsdale 60th Anniversary Upcoming Events

Sixty days of celebration will lead up to the City of Scottsdale’s 60th anniversary on June 25, 2011. These events are created and hosted both by the City of Scottsdale and by community groups and businesses.

The 60th anniversary celebrations scheduled through June 1 are:


Vote For Your Favorite Scottsdale 60th Showpiece Cake Concept
Chef Tracy DeWitt can handle the heat of the kitchen. She has proved that both as an instructor at Scottsdale’s Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, and also as a five-time competitor on Food Network Challenge.  Now, she is creating a one-of-a-kind showpiece cake to celebrate Scottsdale’s 60th anniversary – and she is asking the community to help select the final design.

The Pink Pony Rides Again! - daily
Scottsdale’s oldest restaurant (est. 1947) is honoring the past by hosting a display of photos and memorabilia on loan from the Scottsdale Historical Society.  The Pink Pony will also be dedicating a dish weekly which will represent the Pony’s shared history with the city of Scottsdale throughout the decades.   The recipes will be available to Pink Pony Patrons.

Young Artists and Authors Showcase
The theme is "Shaping Your Community for a Greener Future" for the 23rd Annual 'Young Artists and Authors Showcase' exhibition sponsored by the Scottsdale Sister Cities Association.
The competition of high school art and writing submissions from throughout Scottsdale will be professionally juried.

ArtWalk – every Thursday
“America’s Original Art Walk” is in its 36th year and features dozens of art galleries, free parking and free trolley service to all corners of the Arts District.

Showcase display of Miss Arizona's Crown handcrafted in 1969 by Paul Johnson Jewelers— May 26
This spectacular crown is a one-of-a-kind work of Art designed by the Memorable Paul Johnson and handcrafted in 1969.  The crown was gifted to The Miss Arizona Scholarship Foundation that annually awards state scholarships for academic achievements and outstanding community service.
