Scottsdale 60th Kicks-Off with Art, Dance and Cowboy Poetry

Sixty days of celebration will lead up to the City of Scottsdale’s 60th anniversary on June 25, 2011. These events are created and hosted both by the City of Scottsdale and by community groups and businesses.

The 60th anniversary celebrations scheduled through May 1 are:

International Carnival - Arts Education Showcase – April 27
Celebrate youth creativity, artistic expression and learn how arts education and youth outreach programs enrich our community.  Experience a wonderful evening filled with music, dance, theater, poetry and visual arts. 
When:    5:30 p.m. April 27

The Dance Chronicle – April 28 and April 29
The Saguaro High School Dance Department presents its Spring Dance Concert, The Dance Chronicle, featuring original choreography by students, teachers and alumni and performed by 120 students from all dance levels at Saguaro High School.

Where:   Saguaro High School Auditorium (6250 N. 82nd St.)

Scottsdale Cowboy History and Poetry Night – April 29
Enjoy a cowboy dinner, learn about Scottsdale cowboy history from McDowell Sonoran Preserve historian Len Marcisz, and hear cowboy poems by Scottsdale Poet Laureate Bob Frost.

Frontier Town Days – April 30
Scottsdale’s Old Town merchants present Frontier Town Days, featuring live western entertainment, arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations and a thieves’ market & sidewalk sale with discounted pricing at all shops.

Arizona State Poetry Society's 2011 Spring Festival – April 30
A day to celebrate the theme Winged Words with open poetry readings, mini-workshops, and memorials.

ArtWalk – every Thursday
“America’s Original Art Walk” is in its 36th year and features dozens of art galleries, free parking and free trolley service to all corners of the Arts District.

             and on Marshall Way north of Indian School to 5th Ave.
