Take the pledge to chase down water leaks at 4-Mile run

Take the pledge to chase down water leaks during Fix A Leak week March 14 – 20 and participate in the inaugural “We’re for Water 4-Mile Race” which takes off from Rio Vista Community Park in Peoria at 9 a.m. March 19 to spotlight EPA’s Fix a Leak Week.

A running toilet, “Leaky Loo McFlapper” the event’s mascot, will lead the race and feature Scottsdale Mayor W.J. “Jim” Lane, Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman, Peoria Mayor Bob Barrett and Phoenix City Council member Claude Mattox as they chase down water leaks.

Water leaks can add up to 10,000 gallons of water wasted each year in your home.  That’s enough to fill a backyard swimming pool.  The most common types of leaks found in the home include leaking toilet flappers, dripping faucets, shower heads and other leaking valves.

Fixing leaks is easy to do, low cost and can save homeowners more than ten percent on their water bills and preserve water for the future.

After the race everyone can enjoy a Family Fun Day featuring music, food and hands-on demonstrations for leak repair.

The event is a cooperative effort by the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA) and includes the cities of Avondale, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe.  Working together, we are One for Water™.

Early registration is just $20 until March 9 and includes a snack, t-shirt and reusable water bottle.  To register or to learn more about Fix A Leak Week visit www.fixaleakweekaz.com
