Kick off the new year with Fit City, Jan. 22

Top New Year’s resolutions include losing weight, exercising more and adapting a healthier lifestyle.  But according to recent studies, about one-third of those who set New Year’s resolutions fail within just one month.

Don’t be a statistic; motivation is on the way.

The third annual Fit City event features ways you and your family can get and stay fit – both physically and mentally.  It’s from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 22, in the Scottsdale City Hall parking lot, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

The free event features something for everyone – games, educational information, fitness demonstrations, health screenings, entertainment and arts and crafts.

As part of Fit City, attendees also will have an opportunity to celebrate the city’s designation as one of the “100 Best Communities for Young People.”  This America’s Promise Alliance designation recognizes and celebrates extraordinary community-wide efforts to improve the well-being of youth and end the nation’s dropout crisis.  Scottsdale has achieved this designation for four years.

Mayor Jim Lane and Jordan LaPier, senior director for 100 Best Communities for Young People, will provide remarks at 9:30 a.m.

The city of Scottsdale and Scottsdale Healthcare sponsor Fit City.  Other partners include Scottsdale Community College and FUN Coach USA.

Organizations participating in Fit City include the Scottsdale Unified School District, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale and Scottsdale Prevention Institute.
