Police, fire teams will help dedicate park with charity foot race

Scottsdale’s first responders will compete for bragging rights Dec. 10 – and to boost the Vista del Camino Food Bank -- during a unique dedication ceremony for Camelback Park.

Residents are invited to the first annual “Camelback Charity Challenge” at high noon Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the park located on the northeast corner of Hayden and Camelback roads. Parking for the dedication is available at Club SAR or at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, located at 8100 E Camelback Road.

As part of the festivities, the Scottsdale Police and Fire departments will compete in a relay race along the park’s multi-use path for bragging rights and a way to assist those in need this holiday season.

Who’s got the fleetest feet? Residents can vote for their favorite team by dropping off non-perishable food items at the Police/Fire headquarters building, 8401 E. Indian School Road, or at other donation sites throughout the city. Donations also will be accepted Wednesday at the park prior to the relay race.

The park’s grand opening event will include remarks from Mayor Mary Manross and Acting City Manager John Little. Healthy snacks will be provided by the Culinary Institute starting at 11:30 a.m.
