  Internet streamlines construction bid process

Scottsdale is using the Internet to further streamline its construction bid process, making detailed construction documents available to bidders online beginning Dec. 9.

Bidders will be able to download plan sheet and specification documents from the Purchasing Division Web pages of the city’s Web site at http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/vendors.asp

In the past, businesses interested in bidding on city construction projects have picked up copies of the construction documents at the Purchasing Division or had the documents shipped to their offices.

Under the new system, the electronic versions of the plans will always be available on the Web site, and vendors can print them out themselves or provide the files to any reprographics or copy center in their area.

“This will save everyone time and energy,” said Purchasing Manager Jim Flanagan. “It will make our bid process easier for companies to access and encourage contractors to compete for Scottsdale’s business.”

Purchasing employees also note the system will be more environmentally friendly, allowing vendors to view and print out only the specific plans they need.

The division will continue to keep one set of plans available for viewing during each bidding period at their location on the second floor of the Scottsdale Corporation Yard, 9191 E. San Salvador Drive in Scottsdale.

Businesses with questions about the new process may contact the division at (480) 312-5717.
