Old Town Scottsdale Hosts New Saturday Farmer's Market Events
Scottsdale’s historic Old Town district will be host to a new Farmer’s Market event every Saturday, starting November 1 and running through May 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Old Town parking lot on the northwest corner of Brown Ave. and 2nd Street.
Coordinated by the Arizona Farmer’s market in conjunction with community partners the city of Scottsdale Downtown Office, Scottsdale Healthcare and Sunrise Bank, this new venue will feature the best local growers in the Valley, with more than 40 vendors providing a variety of organic vegetables and fruits, flowers, herbs, a coffee roaster and an assortment of handmade items including pastries, jams, and baked goods. Located at the Old Town surface parking lot on the northwest corner of Brown Street and 2nd Street, this feast for the eyes and stomach, has ample parking, live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, and a variety of displays that highlight community resources, such as free health screenings by Scottsdale Healthcare, exhibits by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and the Botanical Garden. The Old Town farmer’s market is free and is dog and family friendly.

Farmer’s market attendees are also encouraged to tour other parts of Downtown via the free trolley to take advantage of live concerts in multiple areas, hear the Singing Cowboy astride his trusty stead Dusty, observe a two-day dogathon event at the Waterfront and get information about the upcoming third annual Scottsdale Fashion Week, Nov. 6-9, 2008.

Weekend Canal Concert Series from noon to 3 p.m. Free music! At the Canal Concert Series every Saturday and Sunday at the water’s edge, just north of Marshall Way Bridge. 5th Avenue Free Unplugged Solo Music on Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. The historic Fifth Avenue shopping district has long promoted local musicians as a way to enhance its pedestrian environment. The city of Scottsdale Downtown Office in conjunction with the Fifth Avenue merchants association is hosting a series of live performances including several original artists who began their musical careers on 5th Avenue. These free, live performances will take place in various locations along Fifth Avenue (which is just west of Scottsdale Road and south of the canal). The performance roster includes:

Starting Nov. 1 – May, 2009 on Saturday and Sunday (starting in December) from 1 to 4 p.m. – The Singing Cowboy Gary Sprague and trusty stead Dusty return to Old Town to serenade shoppers with western classics and local folklore – a must see performance. Nov. 1-2 – Dogathon – The first annual dogathon™ will take place on November 1st and 2nd in the Southbridge and Waterfront areas of the Downtown. The dogathon ™ will consist of a variety of dog competitions, social gatherings, dog adoptions and the main event charity parade™ [Nov 1] where participants walk in different categories for local & national charities. Parade categories will include dogs + owners in Costumes, Fashion & by Breeds. There will also be an adoption section in the parade where dogs are previewed and numbered for the following days adoption. The “Events Day” [Nov 2] will have an array of activities including dog adoption, petiquette classes, doggie bobbing for apples, peticures, Paw-Casso, Tricks competition [spectacular + stupid], groom off, sponsor booths and our headline attraction [the dog medium™]. Other highlights of the festival include an online ebay auction with two original pieces from famed local cartoonist Bil Keane [family circus] and a charity party at SIX lounge featuring the dj multimedia extravaganza “the cinema mix” and veteran LA dj – MD Mike Daniel. All events will be filmed for web/broadcast as well as the pilot episode of The Dog Medium™.

Nov. 6-9, 2008 – Scottsdale Fashion Week. Downtown Scottsdale is gearing up for the third annual Scottsdale Fashion Week. The major event features a full schedule of high fashion runway shows, celebrating fashion, art and design, and serves as a showcase for downtown Scottsdale’s burgeoning development as well. The Scottsdale Fashion Week district is anchored by Westcor’s Scottsdale Fashion Square on the north and encompasses Scottsdale Waterfront, the Arizona Canal, SouthBridge, and the downtown arts district which will again host the opening night’s SFW08 Wearable ArtWalk presented by the Scottsdale Gallery Association. Nov. 7-9, 2008 – Scottsdale Festival of Greece on Civic Center Mall. 11am to 11pm/Friday; 11am to 10pm/Saturday; 11am to 7pm/Sunday. Enjoy Arizona Fall League baseball when it returns to Scottsdale Stadium. After dark on the third Thursday in November and December – The ‘Night Lights’ public art installation combines water, light, and entertainment. Don't miss Night Lights, a series of art events featuring interactive light-based artworks and unforgettable music performances, all taking place along the beautiful Scottsdale Waterfront, the third Thursdays of November and December (November 20 and December 18, 2008) from sundown to midnight. Artists will transform the space through unique installations and performers will bring fun and excitement to each evening. Additionally, Arizona artist Mary Lucking will create an interactive work featuring a projection onto the water's surface in the Arizona Canal, running nightly October through December.
