Solis/Waterview project goes to Planning Commission Oct. 22

The proposed Solis Scottsdale Resort and Residences northeast of Camelback and Scottsdale roads will be reviewed by the Planning Commission on Wednesday, Oct. 22.  The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

The Planning Commission report on the case and stipulations is available at http://eservices.scottsdaleaz.gov/planning/projectsummary/pc_reports/PC_9_ZN_2007.pdf.

The commission will consider a rezoning request for the Solis site, abandonment of alleys and a portion of Buckboard Trail north of Camelback Road, and a proposed alley abandonment related to a proposal to relocate an electrical substation from the Solis site to a site at 68th Street and Indian School.

The Solis project, formerly known as Waterview, is a proposed mixed-use development of condominiums and a resort hotel on about 11.5 acres along the southern bank of the Arizona Canal north of Camelback Road.

The developer has proposed moving an existing Salt River Project substation from the Solis site to the northeast corner of 68th Street and Indian School Road. While SRP substations are not subject to city approval, the proposal would require the city to abandon an affected alley. Such abandonments are subject to City Council approval.

SRP and Arizona Public Service representatives will be present to provide information on projected power demands for the Downtown and surrounding area.

The most recent plans for the Solis project propose six buildings, including the resort hotel and condominiums. The current plans include 250 hotel rooms, 151 condominiums, 16 penthouses, restaurants, meetings rooms, a spa and underground parking, as well as canal bank improvements and a one-acre public park.
